Gone Home

Imagine yourself coming home from a great year of studying abroad, taking a taxi back to your home in the middle of the night to surprise your family, and finding yourself alone in an empty house with nothing but a note on the front door from your little sister telling you she’s “sorry” and to “not try to find” her. This marks the beginning of Gone Home and the beginning of an epic adventure to search through the house for anything that might help you understand what exactly happened to your family. This computer game takes you on an emotional roller-coaster ride as you begin to understand the depths of the problems that your little sister, mom, and dad experienced while you were away. This game is full of twist and turns and maintains a constant level of suspense to keep you enthralled in the plot. At certain points, you almost expect something to jump out at you as you turn a corner but fortunately, this game does not resort to such cheap scare tactics.

Gone Home is one of the most eloquently designed games I’ve ever played and it is accompanied with a heavy plot that makes you want to beat the game in one sitting. Gone Home is somewhat tricky to purchase online because it’s made through an independent gaming company but it’s worth figuring it out. As long as I live, I will not forgot the epic plot of Gone Home and hearing the beginning track of the game is enough to send me down a path of reflection and appreciation for the game and its makers The Fullbright Company. My recommendation, play the game slowly and discover each room and the objects hidden within them. They add to the story and the overall impact of the game’s plot. Good Luck..
